Dr. Chiu spent most of her life on the West Coast and calls it her home. She attended U.C. Davis, studying molecular biology and psychology. This is where she discovered her passion for medicine, while volunteering for a free clinic in Downtown Sacramento. She was offered a Regent's Scholarship at U.C. Irvine and packed her bags for medical school in sunny Southern California. While rotating through the different disciplines of medicine, she found psychiatry the most interesting and enjoyable. After medical school, Dr. Chiu completed a four-year residency at U.C. Irvine, specializing in psychiatry. She passed the rigorous multi-part exams (including live patient interviews) to become Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry.
Prior to starting her private practice, Dr. Chiu worked in community mental health in Oakland, CA, where she performed medication evaluations in Cantonese. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Northern California Psychiatric Society Committee on Asian American affairs.
In her free time, Dr. Chiu loves traveling and spending time with her family and dog. She is an avid baker and knitter.
